Water Baptism
Jerrin Varughese

This report is on water baptism. What does water baptism mean?  Why do we as Christians get baptized?  Who was the first to baptize

Others?  These are all the questions you may be asking yourself before taking water baptism.

What does water baptism mean?  It means that you are taking part in the death and resurrection of our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ.  When you immerse in to water, you leave your old life and sins behind.  And when you are raised from the water that's an example of when Jesus Christ was rising from the tomb during his resurrection.   Romans 6:10. for the death that he died, He died unto sin once: but in that He liveth, He liveth unto God. When you take water baptism, You start anew life with Christ, experiencing His death and resurrection.

Why do we Christians get baptized?  Baptism is one of God's most important commandments.  Jesus died on the cross for our sins, which was a big price to pay.   We get baptized to participate in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Romans 6:8.  Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him. You change into different person and you get rid of all your wicked ways.   Romans 6:11 likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Who was the first to baptize others? Mathew 3:11 "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry.  He will baptize you with the Holy spirit and fire".   These words were spoken by John the Baptist who the first one to baptize people in the days of Christ.  In the present, we are baptized to represent the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  But, before Jesus died, John the Baptist was baptizing in the Jordan river, a man from Galilee came to be baptized.   John immediately knew that this man was Jesus. Mathew 3:13-15,. Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. saying," I need to be baptized by you and are you coming to me?"  But Jesus answered and to Him.   " permit to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness". Then he allowed him.  When Jesus got baptized, the heavens opened, and the spirit of God descended from heaven like a dove shining upon Jesus Christ.   Mathew 3:17- And a voice came from heaven, saying.   This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased".

When we baptize in the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost, we have to remember that we are representing the death and resurrection of Christ. The son of God was baptized, and he set an example to all men that follow him, to be baptized.  Amen.
