All my days were written in
your book before one of them came to be
Finney Cherian
In one sense everything about this era is different and in the other sense nothing about
this era is different form the past generations. If you look at our life today as opposed
to those fifty or hundred or two hundred years ago, clearly all you can see are changes.
Primarily, technology, medicine, knowledge, transportation and communication have changed
to make our lives infinitely better. On the other hand all these improvements have not
really changed the anxieties, worry, unexpected tragedies of life. We can send a man to
the moon and explore the vastness of the universe, put satellites in orbit that relays
information in an instant, but we have not found a cure for the common cold. Ironies are
everywhere, so what remains the same? The answer is human beings. We might be able to
travel faster and have access to instant communication, but along with the advancement
came greater complexities of life that puts the pressure on man to outdo and outperform
himself all the time. It is unimportant that corporate profit was record setting the last
quarter, the question is what about this quarter, its unimportant that you put in ungodly
hours at the office last month, how many hours did you work and how much business did you
bring in this month. The question is what does Wall street and Madison Avenue think of you
now? You see, along with the advancement, problems have also increased for man.
Man might be able to build a space station to live in the deepest of space but man can
never outturn the challenges and problems of life. There is still only one place that man
can look to for answers and that is still God. The problems of man are universal, the
pressures of man are constant till death and way of life still rests with God. Man's
problems of sickness, disease, anger, fear, wrath, worry, anxiety, discouragement,
disappointment, discontent, disillusionment, jealousy, ignorance can never be eradicated,
with man's solutions. As long as these intangible evils abound, man's only hope will
always be in God. Good jobs, education, money might be good as a soother of symptoms, but
only God has the cure. And that cure is found only in Jesus Christ, He never promises to
take away our problems, but he sill give us the strength to overcome.
And, that is exactly what God is looking for, overcomers. Most of us want to be overcomers
but end up being murmurers. We murmur about everything, from sun up to sun down.
Complaining and murmuring are for the weak and faithless and not for overcomers and God
despise murmuring. When we murmur it shows to God our lack of faith in God to sustain us,
and that God somehow is not in charge. But if we really understood the verse above from
Remember, the only thing that matters in life is what God thinks of us, because if God is
for us no one can be against us. And, God through Jesus Christ, cared enough to write in
his book all the days of your life, even at this moment when you are reading this, it did
not happen by chance, God willed it to happen so that you will put your faith in Him, who
is the source of life.
